📢 Latest News & Updates
In February 2025, Makai suffered a near-fatal wipeout at Pipeline, falling headfirst into the reef and losing consciousness. Thanks to rapid rescue efforts from lifeguards and fellow surfers, he was revived, placed in a medically induced coma, and made a miraculous recovery just days later.
Makai emerged from the ordeal stronger, more focused, and deeply grateful. He has since spoken openly about the importance of safety in big waves, now wearing impact vests and advocating for helmets and improved emergency protocols at Pipe.
His comeback marks not only a return to surfing but a transformation. He is now more than a charger; he's a survivor, a symbol of resilience, and a North Shore role model.
