Moliets beach
The main beach at Moliets is the quintessential forgiving Landes beach break, with sandbanks shaped by the mouth of the Courant d’Huchet that fire clean, peaky A-frames, good lefts and even better rights, for hundreds of meters on their day. It’s sandy-bottomed and gentle in summer, which makes it a lovely place to learn, and it gets fast and powerful with autumn size, with rips that strengthen on the bigger swells. Backed by pines and a huge campsite scene, it’s welcoming and social, and the surf schools are out in force.
Messanges
Just south of Moliets, Messanges is a long, open stretch of sand with manageable peaks, a little less grunty than the beaches further south and a solid beginner-to-intermediate alternative. It stays quieter than the famous spots outside the peak weeks and works reliably across the tides, which makes it a good place to escape the Moliets crowd and find your own bank. Vieux-Boucau (Port d’Albret)
A little further south, Vieux-Boucau and its Port d’Albret beach is a friendly beach break beside the marine lake, popular with families and surf schools. It’s forgiving on the small days and picks up power with swell, with banks shaped by the lake outflow, a pleasant, easygoing option in a lively little resort town. A good backup and a nice change of scene from Moliets.
South: Seignosse and Hossegor
A short drive south, the Landes beach breaks step up sharply in power, culminating in some of the heaviest waves in Europe.

The beaches of Seignosse, Les Bourdaines, Les Estagnots and Le Penon, are the pick of the coast for punchy, well-shaped beach-break peaks, a clear step up in power from the northern Landes. From September to October, clean, consistent Atlantic groundswell arrives, the water is still warm from summer, and the campsite crowds have thinned, giving quality peaks with room to breathe, October is the sweet spot.
